With over two decades of experience working in City of Sydney and its surrounding councils of Waverley, Woollahra, Inner West, North Sydney, Ku-ring-gai and City of Randwick; our small and agile team has an intimate knowledge of local requirements whilst ensuring a commitment towards practical and characterful residential design.
The client brief was not only towards their own experience of the house, but a means to future proof their investment. Effectively the renovation revolving door in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs is as low as 4 years, a factor compounded by the arrival of BASIX ten years ago that led to homes being upgraded as well as redecorated: It is noticeable that as houses become better thermally; they also become quieter and more comfortable.
In ten years time, double glazing is going to be standard, effective heating is going to be standard, better insulation in walls as well. If you don’t do that now, you are not protecting your investment..
New cladding improved the R-Value (unit of Thermal resistance) from 0.7 to 3-4 to cope with the southern and western aspects.

This hilltop house has remarkable views to North Head, Manly, the Sydney CBD and the Blue Mountains.
As the large plain building was transformed into a luxurious and environmentally responsible house, a close working relationship was formed with the developer client. A promenade of paths, stairs and landings unfolds views and events from the lush new garden up through the living floor to the rooftop lookout.
Each bedroom and living area is linked to a dedicated outdoor space. Angled walls and sunken terraces frame harbour views and protect privacy.
Passive solar heating and cooling is augmented by a hydronic floor heating system. The house will have excellent natural light and ventilation, generous banks of thermal mass, substantial insulation, solar water and pool heating and ample rainwater storage.
These environmental responsible design initiatives help to create the feeling of wellbeing and security that is evident in this house.

A media room, rumpus room, study and garage occupy the podium floor below.
Above, three bedrooms are arranged around a stair void directing light into the centre of the house. One bedroom has balcony with ocean views, another has a large dressing room while the third bedroom has a climbing wall up to a loft.
